Food and Forest Development

History and Mandate

FFD was founded in 2012, building on development cooperation activities already initiated by the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) in 2010. In that same year, FFD was mandated by MTK, the Central Union of Swedish-speaking Agricultural Producers (SLC), Pellervo and the Association of ProAgria Centres as their agri-agency to the AgriCord Alliance.

Mission, Vision and Approach

FFD's vision is to create wealthy and resilient rural areas where men, women and youth can develop their future sustainably, free of hunger and poverty. As a mission, FFD aims to improve smallholder farmers’ and forest owners’ livelihoods by creating jobs through strong Farmers’ Organisations (FOs).

FFD promotes the position of rural smallholders through their membership-based organisations, with the aim of reducing poverty and improving food security. This is carried out through peer-to-peer collaboration, respecting and promoting organisations in developing countries through technical and organisational support. FFD works to ensure women’s participation and environmental considerations are included.
