09ufj-5329 - Capacity building and economic empowerment for rural women and girls
The Specific Union of Women Farmers (hereunder called Women’s Union) is a recommended member of the Jordan Farmers Union. It was established early 2007 as a volunteer union and all its members are farmer women. The Union fights for rights and better position of women and girls in rural communities in Jordan. Reason was that farmer women all over Jordan realized the hard circumstances and big difficulties that women face : lack of occupations, poverty, low standard of living, violence, lack of awareness, increasing household sizes and misuse of agricultural land. The project includes capacity building activities, rotating/loan fund for economic micro-projects and a media campaign. Objectives : - to raise living standards in rural areas; - to increase rate of educated girls; - to enable women to provide for their needs independently; - to enable women to make decisions and to participate in local policies. The project starts at the poor Ajloun and Jarash areas in the north, where women’s position is considered bad. If successful, the project concept can expand to other areas and rural communities in Jordan. The budget is neatly presented and adds up to 62.000 dinar, equalling 57.200 euro.
