The proposed project is phase II of an earlier project implemented by the Foundation Mensen Werken voor Mensen (MWvM) aiming at assisting rural people in the project area to raise their standards of living through economic activities in the agro-sector. An assessment showed that a cooperative structure would be beneficiary to initiate economic activities in the agro-sector. ZLTO was asked to join the Project Board in the Netherlands responsible for facilitating the programme implementation and technical guiding of activities undertaken. The project is actually based upon a business plan formulated for the agro-coop to be established. In the first year several programmes aimed at increasing quality and quantity of agricultural production, joint use of machinery, joint purchase of inputs, and joint marketing activities (including processing and joint storage/transport for identified products). The cooperative targets at recruiting a minimum of 100 members in the first year and realising a total income of Kuna 158.416.
