work area 12: Research for Development in agriculture

This work area addresses the PO's capacity to take up a (pro-)active role in formulating research agendas and functioning as major stakeholder in the research cycle, building strategic alliances between farmers (-organisations) and researchers and research institutes. This WA is meant for farmers organisations that feel that research institutes in their country or region are developing solutions and technical options that are not applicable to their daily practise or are not taking into account the actual reality or needs of farmers. It is also meant for farmers organisations that feel that though valuable research is implemented, the results and conclusions are not effectively disseminated to the farmers for application. The Work Area focuses on developing and facilitating client-oriented research where end-users (farmers, agro-processors…) are capacitated to set the agenda and be actively involved in all phases of the research cycle, from formulating the research agenda, implementation, monitoring & evaluation, feed-back and dissemination of research results. The specific objective as formulated in Farmers Fighting Poverty Programme is to expand our positive experience with ICRA (Wageningen) on the participatory development of research agendas to 4 new situations. We furthermore expect to develop additional trajectories / products with other Agriprofocus partners.
