Project Components 1. To increase the quality and quantity of self-organization of small farmers (women, men and youth) in order to ensure the dynamic empowerment of the community. a) Strengthen small farmers organizations in the rural areas Strengthening of organisational set-ups, expansion of systems and practices for democratic, grassroots-oriented decision-making processes, ensuring women’s representation and better information flow. Start to design and operationalise a computerised member registration system. The aim will be for such a system to operate nationally as well covering members of its regional affiliates. b) Leadership training Development of human resources and of ability to act as change agent at the local levels. 2. To increase its capacity as a movement to respond positively to the challenges of the grassroots. a) Institutional support Professional development of staff members, courses for administrative personnel. This encompasses training in organisational development, languages, presentation and writing techniques, as well as political work. b) Improve website, information sheet, documentation centre, articulation with the media, memorandum of understanding with Community Radios in the Villages, start thinking of farmers radio station; Mainstream media in the country rarely touches farmer-environment issues and, besides that, it does not reach rural dwellers. We need to develop alternative information streams to each farmers and raise the awareness of the society on the importance of protecting biodiversity. c) Support day-to-day operations, covering central administrative functions and costs, such as remuneration of staff and secretariat, help to buy equipment and supplies.
