Agriterra is supporting the Thai Nguyen Farmer's Union (TNFU), a daughter organisation of VNFU, since mid-2007. TNFU is based in the tea specialised area in Thai Nguyen province in Vietnam and covers a total of 180 communes. This project is the third phase of improving tea production in the specialised tea area of Thai Nguyen province. It is a continuation of project number 5181 and 4966. This project aims to sustain the results of the previous two years and focuses more on business and marketing issues, while at the same time working on the sustaining of the production model of safe and organic tea.

Thai Nguyen Farmer's Union (TNFU) is a new client for Agriterra since mid 2007 and is a daughter organisation of VNFU, which has been a partner of Agriterra for some years now. TNFU is based in the tea specialised area in Thai Nguyen province in Vietnam. TNFU covers a total of 180 communes. This project is the second stage of improving tea production in the specialised tea area of Thai Nguyen province. It is a continuation of project number 4966. This project aims to have more impact on and expand the number of households producing tea. The goal is to enhance capacity and community characteristic of people in producing sustainable safe and organic tea in association with protection of the environment, development of organizing farmer's union and helping people eradicate hunger and reduce poverty. Main activities are training courses to improve farmer's capacity of making plan and forming strategy of business of safe tea and organic tea, to improve TNFU's officers' capacity and to improve safe tea and organic tea producing clubs.

Tea is a key economic value product in Thai Nguyen province, and The Thai Nguyen Farmers Union (TNFU) has a representation in 180 communes and districts in the province, where about 2635 tea farmers household are involved. With this project the Thai Nguyen province Farmers’ Union aims to meet an urgent requirement of the Thai Nguyen tea sector by building a model of environmentally safe tea production as well as setting up farmer groups specialising in environmentally safe tea production to serve domestic and export markets. The aims are raising the producer’s awareness, changing conventional farming habits which have been considered as conservative thinking to pave the way for organic tea production. The community will participate during the implementation of the project in order to promote the community’s role and responsibility and acquire the results.
