Kenya Coffee Producers Association was formed on 5th March 2009 by a merger between Kenya Coffee Growers Association (KCGA, 1991) and Kenya Coffee Growers and Employers Association (KCGEA) to form one united voice for coffee farmers. The Kenya Coffee Growers Association (KCGA) would like to implement a computerized program, named Coopworks, for the coffee cooperative societies and a website with an integrated Short Message Service (SMS) facility to provide information on marketing and other educative services. Various stakeholders will be involved in the project, including KCGA, and an ICT Partner and two Pilot farmers’ cooperative societies. The program is expected to run for nearly two years before it is handed over to the cooperative societies. In the future this ICT program might be a tool for the 100 coffee cooperatives to improve the income of the 350,000 housholds.
