08cam-5244 Strengthening of small farmer groups and improving their market access
CAMFAD is working in 3 southern provinces of Cambodia and has currently 62 village farmer organisations as its members, representing 818 producer groups (local level) having 7.905 individual members of which 57% are women. All members are small farmers. CAMFAD is in a transition period and gradually developing into a farmers organisation with its own elected board (since 2006). CAMFAD does not want to expand its membership but rather consolidate and further strengthen its current member organisations and strengthen its own capacity as a farmers organisation. Overall goal: Strengthening the livelihoods of vulnerable households in 4 provinces. specific objectives: - organisational strengthening of CAMFAD and its member organisations - diversified income generation - establish one provincial farmers market to realise better prices for farmesr -improved quality of farmers products Main activities: -Awareness creation (publications) on agricultural production in order to increase the production and thus income of the farmers -capacity building of CamFAD staff and board members -capacity building of local farmers associations (male/female) and strengthening the capacity of the local leaders - strengthen market access and linkages for farmers and establish a provincial farmers market - training on saving and credit of farmers groups to CAMFAD staff and strengthen the farmers groups in this aspect
08cam-5108 CAMFAD rural poverty reduction and market access (CROP-MA) 2008
CAMFAD (Cambodian Farmers’ Association Federation for Agricultural Development) is a farmers organization working for integrated community development. Its aim is to access to a social development without hunger and insufficiency of food. CAMFAD was created in 1992 by the Cambodian retired groups and volunteer workers and recognized by the Ministry of Interior on 17 February 1995. CAMFAD works to improve human’s well-being through development of rural economy, agriculture, microfinance activities, education and capacity building, health education, advocacy without any form of discrimination. The aim of the current project proposal is to contribute to poverty alleviation and improve food security in the 3 target provinces first through diversification into small-scale agro-ecology, handicrafts and other sustainable farming practices and linking farmers to market and supporting small scale agro-enterprises.
06cam-4604 CAMFAD Rural Food Security Program
The aim of this project is to improve the farmers’ living standard and to joint Cambodian government policy of poverty reduction, especially in the 40 villages of the four communes (Thlork, Portireach, Svay Ta Yean and Thnot communes) of the two districts (Svay Chrum and Kampong Ro) in Svay Rieng province (Near the border of Viet Nam) through the agro-ecology and other sustainable farming practices and linking farmers to markets and support to small agro-enterprises. CAMFAD is member of IFAP and is now in transition in order to become an established producers organisation, member driven and service oriented. The project will focus appart from the organisational strenghtening on technical support to the comunity members in the region. Paralel to the proposal a financial management trajectory was initialized, the activity plan derived from the FinBase mission in November 2006 is to be implemented in 2007.
