Webinar: FO-led research in breadfruit & banana sector in Pacific & Philippines

Across the globe, farming communities are developing practical solutions to some of agriculture's most pressing challenges, from climate change and biodiversity loss to crop diseases and food insecurity. Increasingly, these innovations are emerging not only from research institutions, but also from farmers themselves through experimentation, collective learning, and the revitalization of indigenous knowledge systems.

On 8 July 2026, AgriCord and its partners invite you to join the webinar: Roots of resilience: How Farmer Organizations are reclaiming Indigenous knowledge and research to tackle breadfruit and banana value chains challenges in the Pacific and the Philippines.

This webinar will showcase how farmer organizations are becoming powerful drivers of agroecological innovation, acting as knowledge producers, community researchers, innovation facilitators, and advocates for sustainable food systems.

Why this webinar matters

Indigenous and local knowledge systems have long played a vital role in sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation. Yet these practices often remain under-recognized in agricultural development and research agendas.

At the same time, farmer organizations are increasingly demonstrating their capacity to generate solutions that are locally adapted, environmentally sustainable, and socially inclusive.

By bringing together farmer organizations, researchers, development practitioners, cooperatives, and policy actors, this webinar will explore how farmer-led research and indigenous knowledge can contribute to building more resilient agroecological food systems.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn from concrete examples.
  • Explore how indigenous and local knowledge can strengthen climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.
  • Gain insights into participatory research approaches led by farmer organizations.

Speakers

The webinar will feature:

  • Katja Vuori, CEO of AgriCord – Welcome Remarks
  • Mohinesh Reddy, Pacific Farmer Organisations (PFO) – Revitalizing Breadfruit Systems through Farmer-Led Agroecological Innovation and Indigenous Knowledge
  • Kahlil Apuzen-Ito, FARMCOOP – Tackling TR4 Disease in the Banana Value Chain through Participatory Agroecological Research and Innovation: Experience from the Philippines

The presentations will be followed by an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session.
