From 27-30 July, AgriCord will join researchers, farmer organisations, policymakers and development partners at the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW9) under the theme "Innovation and Partnerships for Resilient and Sustainable Agrifood Systems in Africa."
Through our FORI (Farmer-led Research and Innovation in Agroecology) programme, farmer organisations across Africa, Asia, the Pacific and Latin America are working alongside researchers and other partners to test, adapt and scale locally driven agroecological innovations. These experiences demonstrate that when farmers' organisations lead action research, innovation becomes more relevant, more inclusive and more likely to scale. During AASW9, AgriCord will bring these lessons to two key sessions:
1. Agroecology Parallel Session - (28 July) 11:00-13:00
Our CEO, Katja Vuori, will present experiences from the FORI programme, showcasing how farmer organisations are leading agroecological research and innovation through collaborative partnerships and contributing to the scaling of resilient food systems.
2. Farmer-Centred Action Research and Innovation Side Event
Together with Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL, Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa - FARA, EOAI-Africa, NOARA and AfrONet, AgriCord is co-organising this session and moderating a panel featuring farmer organisations from Burundi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Speakers will share concrete examples from the FORI programme on how farmer-led research strengthens climate resilience, value addition, agroforestry and sustainable food systems.
3. Meet us at the exhibition
Throughout the week, AgriCord will also be present alongside partners from the Agroecology and Ecological Organic Agriculture in Africa community. Come and meet us to discuss how farmer-led research, strong farmers' organisations and strategic partnerships can accelerate Africa's agrifood systems transformation.
We look forward to connecting with partners old and new in Abuja!
